International Freight Shipping | China's Autonomous shipping will lead the world by 2025

International freight shipping news: The 2022 China National Maritime Week has started. The China Institute of Navigation released a forecast on July 11 that if effective measures are taken to deal with the factors restricting development, China’s autonomous shipping technology and industrialization will generally reach the international advanced level in 2025. With advanced technologies and rich experience, Unitex provides safe and high-quality sea freight services for customers across the world.

According to Zhang Baochen, vice chairman of the 2022 China National Maritime Week Organizing Committee and executive vice chairman of the China Institute of Navigation, in 2020, the China Institute of Navigation organized more than 20 units, including the Water Transport Science Research Institute of the Ministry of Transport to cooperate with the China Association for Science and Technology. They issued "China Autonomous Shipping Technology and Industrialization Development Roadmap".  After 16 months of hard work, the project has completed the research task.

Zhang Baochen said that after extensive collection of expert opinions and repeated research and demonstration, the project has identified 22 key issues in the development of China's autonomous shipping technology and industrialization at this stage, including the auxiliary decision-making for ship navigation safety, whether for crewed and uncrewed ships, the remote control of ships, the autonomous collision avoidance in open waters, complex waters and severe sea conditions, the intelligent management and control of container, liquid bulk and dry bulk cargo loading and unloading operation systems, the ship autonomous navigation network information security, the platform-based Shipping transaction intelligent service, ship electromechanical equipment operation monitoring and health management, intelligent high reliable electromechanical control, the localization of intelligent core electromechanical equipment and control system, intelligent shipping development technology and industrial ecosystem construction, etc.

The project summarizes the opinions of 121 authoritative experts in related fields in China. Among them, it is estimated that the key technologies that China can realize during the "14th Five-Year Plan" period account for 7.4%, the proportion that can be realized during the "15th Five-Year Plan" period is 74%, and the rest can be realized during the "16th Five-Year Plan" period. Among the key technologies, the EU is currently leading the world, followed by Japan and South Korea. China is basically close to the international advanced level in many aspects. China has entered the frontier, but its foundation is weak, and it faces great pressure and challenges. The main factors restricting China’s development are policies, regulations, standards, R&D investment and infrastructure conditions. China must speed up the development and strive to make breakthroughs in many aspects. It has to make progress in core technology, while maintaining its own advantages and complementing the shortcomings.

Based on the forecasts above, the China Institute of Navigation released a forecast on the development of China's autonomous shipping technology and industrialization that if China can take effective measures against the factors restricting development. The following medium and long-term development goals can be set: By 2025, China's autonomous shipping Technology and industrialization can reach the international advanced level, and major breakthroughs will be made in regulations on autonomous navigation of ships, large-scale application of assisted driving technology, and multi-sample application of remote control and autonomous driving technologies; by 2035, autonomous shipping technology and industrialization will lead the world, and a fully autonomous new shipping format will basically take shape, with coastal remote-controlled and autonomous ships accounting for more than 30%; by 2050, China’s autonomous shipping and industrialization will fully reach the international leading level, forming high-quality system, with the supply of autonomous shipping services covering the world.
